Plastic

Plastic bags have been one of the biggest nuisances in terms of pollution riding up there with Styrofoam cups, bowls, and takeout boxes, and plastic cutlery. You've probably seen them blowing around all over the place.

But they're not just bad pollution wise, it takes more oil to make 1,000,000 plastic bags than it does to power 1,000,000 cars. How could we stop this? We could stop this by using re-usable bags that are made of Eco-friendly materials.Let's solve this problem!

More About Me! :)

BIO

My name is Kimani, and I am 12 years old. I live in Bronx, New York City, NY, and have lived there for most of my life. I go to school in Brooklyn, and I am in 6th grade. I take a special interest in science, and especially astronomy. I am also interested in history, especially Egyptology. I play the piano, the flute, the gyll (an African xylophone), steel pan, and a little bit of the djembe (an African drum). I like to play outside, read, and occasionally, watch a little bit of TV and play video games. When I grow up, I want to be an astronomer and astrophysicist. I have an interest in the environment. This is something that I care a lot about, and nothing can stop me from caring about it. When I was 5 years old, I realized that there was something wrong with the environment, and I wanted to help fix it. I thought that adults were messing up the world, and when the next generation takes over, there will not be much left for us to have, and it will be difficult enough just to pick up the pieces. I thought up something called One Earth Heart. One Earth Heart is an organization that is dedicated to saving the environment and helping mankind meet it’s goal. We are at a crucial turning point in history, and we need to make sure that everyone is correct in choices as we keep walking. I have always been disturbed at the unfairness of the world, and One Earth Heart is here to correct that too. There are certain places in the world that do things to get food that other places in the world would not even dream about doing, but they have to do it, even though they might not like it either. If they don’t do it, there might not be any other way to get food for your family. Some of these things involve children doing strange or extreme things, like fighting each other at the age of 5 to put food on the table for their families. This is the kind of unfairness that One Earth Heart hopes to vanquish.

News!

One Earth Heart will also have an independent news station to get the news right and talk about things that are actually important. Getting the news right is very important, because what journalists right will be beamed across the planet, so if the information is wrong, then you're giving a lot of people wrong information.

Tip No. 3

Here is your last tip for the day. Use less water for more clothes, and try to fill your dryer. Try to get as much clothes in your dryer that you can, but leave a little bit of tumbling room. This way, you won't have to waste electricity with several loads of laundry. Also, to avoid excessive washing altogether, try to wear clothes multiple times, just make sure they don't look dirty!

Tip No. 2

Here is your second tip: We've all heard of the "3 R's," Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, but you might not know that it is as important as people say. Plastic takes over 1,000 years to bio-degrade. Some plastics take over 10,000 years! For those of you who don't know what that means, to put it simply, it takes a long long time to rot. There are bio-degradable forks and spoons out there that are made out of corn, as well as lots of other non-plastic re-usable items. Try to use some of those, and always remember the "3 R's."

Tip No. 1

Here is the first tip: GET OFF OF THIS BLOG! Computers are one of the most widely used electronics in the US and the world (In the US Television slightly outruns the computer), and they sap a lot of electricity. Put a limit to your gaming and work on the computer. One more thing: Screen savers actually DO NOT conserve electricity like people think. It actually wastes more electricity than if your computer is sitting idle, so put it on standby or turn it off.

Tips!

One Earth Heart is still under development, so until it's up, I will provide tips on how to be environmentally friendly. Take these tips seriously, and we can start saving the planet before One Earth Heart boots up.

Our Mission Statement

The One Earth Heart mission statement is as follows:

To inform and educate young people about what is going on in the world.
To do whatever we can to save the environment
Further the scientific reserch of mankind into the future
TO GET 1,000,000 KIDS BANDED TOGETHER IN AN EFFORT TO SAVE THE ENVIRONMENT AND ENCOURAGE WORLDWIDE PEACE

You might notice I said YOUNG PEOPLE. One Earth Heart will be entirely run by kids. You might ask why kids, so I will tell you.

First of all, there are a lot of kids, so we can do a lot more
Second of all, kids have a lot of influence. We can always persuade our parents to buy some little something or other for our entertainment, so why can't we ask our parents to get an environmentally friendly car, or waste less resources?
Third and most importantly, kids have a lot of CONNECTIONS. If one kid found out, they could tell their siblings, teachers, parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, cousins, the list goes on and on, and then those people could tell who they know, creating an ever expanding web of enlightened people. Then we can all get together and do something helpful.

One Earth Heart
